Announcements
PARISH PICNIC – We will have a brown-bag style picnic this afternoon at 2:00pm at the Los Osos Middle School field. Bring your own chair, mask, and picnic. We’ll still need to keep our social-distancing and maintain safety protocols, but will be able to enjoy each other’s company and be together socially. Join us!
INDOOR WORSHIP – Tuesday night Vespers We are starting our return to indoor worship with our Vesper service at 5:30pm on Tuesday nights beginning this week. A simple form of this evening liturgy is used and we discuss the scripture reading for the day, and offer our prayers. We will ask people to wear masks, and observe proper social distancing. There won’t be a potluck following the service, but people are encouraged to bring their own snacks and stay to socialize. Consider joining us!
SUNDAY INDOOR WORSHIP – While we are looking forward to being able to have Eucharist indoors in the near future, we are beginning our return to the church next Sunday May 9 at 10:30am with a service of the Liturgy of the Word. (Eucharist will not be celebrated.) Face masks are required and social distancing protocols will be maintained. As we are limited to 25 people in the sanctuary, we will use a lottery system to allocate seats and there will be some overflow seating outdoors on the veranda and in the Great Room. Bread blessed at the 8am Zoom service will be available after the 1030. The service will also be live-streamed on Facebook for those who stay at home.
VIRTUAL COFFEE HOUR – With our return to in-person services there is opportunity for those present to stay a bit and socialize together. Coffee is not served but people may bring their own thermos. For those watching at home, the Zoom room is still available between 11:30-12:30 on Sundays for informal no-host conversations.
THE CHURCH CRACKED OPEN – Free Webinar May 6
The President and Board of Directors of the Episcopal Church Foundation invite you to an evening of learning and conversation with The Rev. Stephanie Spellers, Canon to the Presiding Bishop for Evangelism, Reconciliation and Stewardship of Creation on May 6, 2021 at 4pm Pacific Time. Canon Spellers is an ECF Fellow (2008) and longtime contributor to ECF Vital Practices. In this conversation, we celebrate and discuss Canon Spellers’ latest book – The Church Cracked Open: Disruption, Decline, and New Hope for Beloved Community. Church Publishing Incorporated describes, “in this critical yet loving book, the author explores the American story and the Episcopal story in order to find out how communities steeped in racism, establishment, and privilege can at last fall in love with Jesus, walk humbly with the most vulnerable and embody beloved community in our own broken but beautiful way. The Church Cracked Open invites us to surrender privilege and redefine church, not just for the sake of others, but for our own salvation and liberation.” Please join us by registering here. Registration closes at 9pm on Wednesday.
HOLLISTER INSTITUTE DISCUSSION Pease consider joining the ongoing conversation about spirituality based on the Irish poet, John O’Donohue’s, book Beauty: the Invisible Embrace. It’s ok to come and participate even if you haven’t read the book
In this book, John O’Donohue turns his attention to the subject of beauty―the divine beauty that calls the imagination and awakens all that is noble in the human heart―focusing on the classical, medieval and Celtic traditions, on art, music, literature, nature and language. Using his work as our jumping off point we will explore the place of Beauty and its inspiration in our own lives.
LOS OSOS COMMUNITY DINNER – May 6 It’s our turn to host the Los Osos Community Dinner. Food donations are needed from St. Benedict’s members. Please contact Maureen Titus at 805-441-7262 to let her know what you will bring.
