THIS WEEK’S ANNOUNCEMENTS
A Message from Bishop Lucinda |
Dear Beloved of El Camino Real, Over the last few days, the images from Lahaina on Maui have left many of us shocked and saddened. It’s almost unimaginable to see so much destruction in such a short time. The Diocese of El Camino Real understands the devastation caused by wildfires from our own experience a few short years ago. We also know the impact prayers and support can have. The Right Reverend Robert L. Fitzpatrick, Bishop of the Diocese of Hawai’i, asked for prayers in a message on August 9th due to the fires on the islands of Maui and Hawaiʻi (“the Big Island”). The Lahaina side of Maui has been particularly devastated. If you feel moved to donate to the victims of the fire, you can make a donation through Episcopal Relief and Development. The Diocese of Hawaiʻi is also coordinating immediate Diocesan relief efforts through the Diocese’s A CUP OF COLD WATER (ACCW) which is a separately incorporated subsidiary of the Diocese that serves the houseless on Maui. Bishop Robert and the Diocese of Hawai’i have invited you to pray along with them and have offered these prayers: Almighty God, who is our strength and our refuge; be with those who are besieged by fire, guide those who evacuate so that they may find care and comfort in a safe place; protect their homes and their pets, their neighbors and their friends, so that they may return home to a loving community. We ask this in the name of Jesus your son, who abides with you and with the Holy Spirit. Amen. O God, whose love encircles us; sustain those who respond when wildfires roar, keep them safe from harm and hold them in your sheltering embrace so that they may complete these burdensome tasks, return home to their families, and keep the lives and homes of all they protect safe from harm, in the loving name of Jesus, who gave his life for all. Amen. Loving God, our strength in times of despair, be with all those who have lost their homes to wildfire, comfort them in their distress, strengthen them for the journey ahead, and sustain them with your loving embrace, that they may find a sense of home once again. We ask this in the name of your son Jesus Christ, who heals the sick and restores the lost. Amen. Faithfully, |

Sunday Service at 8:00 am offered in person and on Zoom
St. Benedict’s tradition of contemplative services continues on Sunday mornings at 8:00 am, in person and by Zoom. The Eucharist is celebrated at least two Sundays per month, when Rev. The alerts help Episcopalians automate expressing our views to our representatives in Congress. You also can edit your messages to personalize your concerns. A recent Alert of note is “Urge Congress to Pass Voting Rights Legislation.”https://www.episcopalchurch.org/ministries/office-government-relations/action-alerts/?vvsrc=%2fCampaigns%2f100768%2fRespond

A reminder that all organic waste must now be put into a green container not into the trash. Thank you to Ron Thompson for getting us a new compost container – note that it is WHITE. Less organic waste in the landfill means less methane and less global warming. In SLO County green waste means food waste and paper napkins/paper towels that have been used for food waste, flowers and other organic material but NOT items that are labeled compostable like plates, cutlery etc. Thank you for caring for the planet and obeying the law. No bags of any kind may go in the compost or the recycle bins.
