SPIRITUAL CONVERSATION – This week we will watch a video of Brian McLaren, author of The Great Spiritual Migration which forms the basis of our next conversation. Tuesdays at 10:30.
Join us for our final Transition Team discussion after church April 2. We will welcome back Canon Martha to facilitate a discussion called “What We Have, What We Need” about what we have learned during the transition process about who we are as a parish, where we see God leading us, and the gifts and talents our new Rector will need to help guide us forward. This is the first Sunday of April, so it is a potluck Sunday. Bring a dish to share and your thoughts, hopes, dreams and prayers for our future together!
PEOPLE’S KITCHEN; We serve lunch to our neighbors at 40Prado on Saturday April 1st. Please let Pat Henry riecie5381@gmail.com know how you can help. We are looking for someone to lead this ministry going forward. For more information talk to Pat or to Caro+.
We know you are looking forward to sharing Caro’s Retirement Party with her, our church and community members on May 19. The Parish Council invites your donations to defray the costs. Donations may be made at church, by mail or online. Please mark your gift for Caro’s Party expenses. We appreciate your generosity to make this a wonderful celebratory day.
GROCERY CARDS Thank you to everyone who has registered donations to St Benedict’s on their grocery card at Ralph’s and Foods for Less. We received $256.09 last quarter.
Last week, the House of Bishops passed a resolution, “We urge all in our church, in all the countries in which The Episcopal Church is found, to create safe spaces and shield all people from harassment based on gender identity, and to join in advocacy to protect them from discriminatory laws.”
RESPONDING TO CHRISTIAN NATIONALISM: Presiding Bishop Michael Curry says that extreme Christian Nationalism is “an unholy conflation of Christianity and White Supremacy often tinged with Americanism.” To learn more, join a virtual Lenten program with the ECR Social Justice Committee to learn about Christian Nationalism – what it is, why it is an urgent threat to our democracy and our faith, and how we can respond to it. The five discussion sessions are on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 pm through April 4. It’s not too late to join. Please register for the Zoom series here.
The Diocesan SPRING RENEWAL is April 28-29 in Salinas. This year, the Rt. Rev. Diana Akiyama, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Oregon, is the Keynote Speaker. She will engage us more deeply with our theme for 2023, “Courage in the Wilderness.” Participants will worship, share a banquet to honor our ministries, enjoy presentations and conversation, and most of all, simply be together as a diocese. Spring Renewal is an in-person only event and there will not be an online option available. Everyone is welcome. Registration is now open.https://www.realepiscopal.org/spring-renewal-2023/

A reminder that all organic waste must now be put into a green container not into the trash. Thank you to Ron Thompson for getting us a new compost container – note that it is WHITE. Less organic waste in the landfill means less methane and less global warming. In SLO County green waste means food waste and paper napkins/paper towels that have been used for food waste, flowers and other organic material but NOT items that are labeled compostable like plates, cutlery etc. Thank you for caring for the planet and obeying the law. No bags of any kind may go in the compost or the recycle bins.
The Altar Guild serves each Sunday by setting up and creating sacred space and then putting the vessels and linens away at the end as well as by looking after everything we use in worship. There are openings for two or more people to join the team. If God is calling you to this special ministry please talk to Sarah Chesebro.
BIDDING BOOK PRAYERS – If you’d like to request prayers for someone to have their names read out during the worship services on Sunday, please write them in the bidding book on the stand by the usher’s station as you come into church.
UKRAINIAN REFUGEES in Poland need help. We are sending money to Caro’s sisters church in Nowy Sacz, Poland. Please put “Ukraine” on your check or on-line gift.
NAME TAGS – We are asking everyone to wear a name tag. Please check the name tag board by the door for yours. If you don’t have one, or if an old one has become too shabby, please ask the office to make one for you. In the meantime, you can fill out an adhesive tag for the day.
ST. BENEDICT’S CONNECTIONS – Please do not hesitate to reach out to each other to stay in contact, and feel free to contact Caro+ at 805-704-5826 or caro@stbenslososos.org She loves to hear from you. In an emergency, texts are best.
IN-PERSON SERVICE AT ST. BENEDICT’S – To help lessen the chance of spreading Covid – or Flu or colds – please observe the following behaviors when worshipping at St. Ben’s. Thank you.
- Masks are required at all times inside the church, except when putting the communion bread into your mouth, or when reading the lessons or making announcements from the lectern.
- Wash your hands or use hand sanitizer frequently.
- When coming forward for communion, spread out the circle to keep from standing too closely together.
- During communion the consecrated bread will be dropped into your palm for you to consume.
HOW TO FIND OUR SERVICES
